New Web site showcases NMCI successes
Check out the newly revamped www.eds.com/nmci Web site, which highlights the real-time advancements and future possibilities of the Navy Marine Corps Intranet (NMCI). The site provides relevant and important information about EDS' NMCI story and its long-standing partnership with the U.S. Department of the Navy.
Every day, more than 700,000 Sailors, Marines, and civilian employees rely on NMCI for their PCs and laptops, for their mobile wireless solutions such as BlackBerry devices and wireless cards, and for the security and support their missions require. NMCI has consolidated and standardized network operations services, security and user assistance across every level of command.

- Managing two of the largest and most secure intranets in the world:
- The U.S. Department of the Navy (Navy Marine Corps Intranet), with the first-of-its-kind approach to information services consolidation and technology standardization; migrating more than 700,000 users to a unified, stable and secure IT platform at more than 620 locations; making it the largest intranet in the world.
- The UK Ministry of Defence (MOD Defence Information Infrastructure), which is replacing 500-plus applications and 300 individual information systems with a single, secure, coherent information infrastructure, and is the largest information infrastructure project ever undertaken in Europe.
- Delivering more than 17 million common access cards to the U.S. Department of Defense
- Managing $5.5 billion each month in disbursements for the U.S. Defense Finance and Account Service. EDS reengineered business processes that automated 300,000 vendor and contract transactions per month, cut processing time by 20 percent and shortened problem-resolution time from eight hours to 30 minutes.
- Rolling out 4.5 million cards for the UK HM Post and 11 million Oyster cards for the Transport for London
- Processing benefits for more than 11 million pensioners in the UK
- Managing 7,300 kiosks for the UK's Jobcentre Plus, the world's largest network of kiosks
- Processing payroll and benefits for the UK Armed Forces, which resulted in 30 percent reduction in costs
- Verifying eligibility for 35 million U.S. Department of Defense beneficiaries
- Managing more than 20 revenue systems for the Province of British Columbia
- Processing 15 million registration and search service transactions a year for the Province of Alberta
- Supporting the desktop, mobile computing and help desk operations for a U.S. federal law enforcement agency. The agency will realize a 20 percent operational cost savings of $40.9 million over five years.
- Developing a complete, outsourced content management and e-commerce solution for a U.S. State government, resulting in a five-year net benefit of more than $6 million, driven by a substantial reduction in operational costs, server consolidation and other benefits
- Providing IT services to citizens in 45 U.S. states, including election services in 12, retirement benefits in 18, Department of Motor Vehicles services in nine and welfare services in 12
